Rob Hey, V.P. for Staffing and Development at America's Car-Mart taught this month on the pillar of Serve.  We have so many opportunities to serve.  Starting small and just doing it are key elements to develop a habit of serving.  Opportunities abound for us at work to serve those we work with if we will just open our eyes and allow ourselves to be used by the Lord for what we were created for.

Spencer Frazier is an talks about  what Influence in the workplace is all about.  We must realize that no matter what, we are having an influence on those around us.  How can we be intentional to make our influence for Christ be what those around see when they watch us at work.  

What do you think of when you think about doing your work with excellence? Does excellence really mean perfection in todays vernacular?  Can someone really do everything with excellence without falling over from exhaustion? Who's definition of excellence should we use.  

Tom Frase, Founder of WorkMatters offers a great teaching that will answer these questions and provide you with solid scriptural basis for backing up his thoughts.  

Steve Toth teaches about one of the most important aspects of our faith at work journey is how we are living out a life of integrity. Is our walk and our talk consistent? Do those we work with know that we can be counted on to do what we say we will do?  

We are very excited about this year's Eight to Five.   This is the fifth season of presenting a powerful monthly opportunity for marketplace professionals to gather and hear about ways that their peers are living out their faith at work. 

This year, we want to go to a deeper level.  So many of you have told us that you really enjoy the talks, but you want to learn more about faith and work principles.  You have said you want to talk about real world issues that you face every day in your job that challenge you to live out your faith. 

Our plan is to use each monthly event to focus more on teaching “how to do it?” which is an often asked question.  We are not saying that we have all the answers to every question you might have, but we want to focus on some of the most important issues and questions that you might have regarding what does living out my faith really look like.

Using the WorkMatters Seven Pillars of faith and work as a framework, our goal is to address real life issues we face every day and for you to leave our meetings with solid application points to take back to your workplace.

William H. Henderson has served as President of America's Car-Mart since May 2002. From 1999 until May 2002, Mr. Henderson served as Chief Operating Officer of the company. Previous to that, from 1992 through 1998, Mr. Henderson served as General Manager and from 1987 to 1992, Mr. Henderson primarily held the positions of District Manager and Regional Manager. Mr. Henderson has served as Vice Chairman of the Board since May 2004 and as a director since September 2002.

Ross Cully is Co-Founder and Senior Partner at The Harvest Group, a sales and marketing firm that services consumer packaged goods manufacturers as they do business in retail. Before Harvest, Ross was an Account Executive at Procter & Gamble and a Sales Director at Northstar Partnering Group. Ross is a graduate of The University of Missouri and lives in Fayetteville, Ark. He and his wife, Kate, have two children; Norah, 2, and Jude, 5 months. He serves on the board of directors of Fayetteville based Lightbearers Ministries International as chairman, serves on the board of directors of 99 Balloons, Inc., and is active in Fellowship Bible Church.

Paige Partridge Hix and Robert Hix have been practicing for over seven years in the Fayetteville area.  They are both obstetrician and gynecologists at Parkhill Clinic for Women.  Both Paige and Robert attended Hendrix College and subsequently the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences for medical school and residency.  Married for over nine years, they have four children between them ranging from six to thirteen years old.  They are active members at Central Methodist church in Fayetteville.  Over the last year, they have had the opportunity to take their knowledge of medicine to several places outside of the country on medical mission trips. 

 

Maxie is an independent consultant and advisor. He was formerly Vice President of the People & Training/Development Divisions for Wal-Mart Stores, retiring in January 2000, after a 27-year career.  As President of MVC Advisory Resource, Inc, founded shortly after his retirement, he brings an experiential corporate perspective to individuals and organizations across the country, assisting them with process management.

Dan Skoff joined KNWA as the chief meteorologist in June 2006. His broadcasting career began at the CBS affiliate KWTV/Oklahoma City in 1998, where for three years he became a professional media storm tracker and alerted the public of severe weather danger. Then it was off to Amarillo where he was the weekend meteorologist for the NBC and FOX affiliate KAMR/KCIT for almost 3 years.  He is a member of both the National Weather Association and the American Meteorological Society.  Dan also holds the prestigious AMS television Seal of Approval.  Dan enjoys spending time with his wife Jennifer and children, Callie and Cade.

Kelly L. Johnson, A.A.E., is the Airport Director for the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport Authority.  From May 1977 to November 1996, she worked in various capacities for the City of Fayetteville, the last 10 years as Assistant Airport Manager at Fayetteville Municipal Airport. Kelly is a private pilot and serves as the First Vice Chair on the National Board of Directors of American Association of Airport Executives as well as on the board of directors for the International Association of Airport Executives.  In addition, she was the former president of the Southeast Chapter of American Association of Airport Executives, a former chairperson of the Bentonville/Bella Vista Chamber of Commerce, and the former president of the Arkansas Airport Operators Association.  Kelly has been married for 36 years to her husband, Rick, and they have two children.

Tim Helder has been the Sheriff of Washington County since being elected in 2004.  Prior to that, he served as the Washington County Chief Deputy and contributed 21 years to the Fayetteville Police Department.  Tim also serves on a variety of boards:  Washington Regional Hospital Board of Directors, Arkansas Sheriff’s Youth Ranch, Arkansas Sheriff’s Association and the Fayetteville Police Pension Board. Most recently, Tim was selected as Chair for the Gulf Coast High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force, which includes the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi. He resides in West Fork, Ark., with his wife, Holly, and they have three children: Nolan, Clay and Karli.  Tim is an active member of the First Baptist Church of West Fork.

President and CEO of Mercy Health Systems of Northwest Arkansas.    He is actively involved in his community and a has four children with his wife, Christine. 

Shelley Simpson is the President of J.B. Hunt Transportation Services, Inc. Integrated Capacity Solutions (ICS) and is an Executive Vice President for the parent company.  Founded in January 2007, ICS provides an alternate, non-asset based transportation solution. Shelley graduated in 1994 from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark., with a degree in marketing, and began her career with J.B. Hunt as an Account Representative.  Her career has included positions across various business segments including Director of Pricing for both the Truck and Intermodal business segments, Vice President of Economic Analysis and Senior Vice President of Finance and Administration for the corporation. Shelley is a member at the Church at Pinnacle Hills, in Rogers, Ark., and she is a full-time wife and mother of three.

Brad Jones is the Executive Vice President and co-founder of New Creature, Inc., an in-store marketing solution provider located in Rogers, Ark.  A graduate of the University of Arkansas with a bachelor’s degree in business, Brad spent the first four years of his career at J.B. Hunt Transportation Services, Inc., working primarily in logistics.

In 1999 Patrick Sbarra and Brad started New Creature by fulfilling the needs of Wal-Mart and its supplier community located here in northwest Arkansas.  Having recently celebrated its 11^th birthday, New Creature is continuing to meet the marketing and design needs of suppliers throughout the country.  Brad and his wife, Tamera, live in Bentonville with their three children:  Gentry, 11, Raven, 9, and Walker, 7.

 

Terry Turpin is a partner and Chief Operating Officer of Acumen Holdings, LLC, a Fayetteville-based ecommerce company in northwest Arkansas.  Prior to joining Acumen Holdings, he was one of the original partners in ThompsonMurray, Inc., an advertising agency that pioneered the field of shopper marketing.  ThompsonMurray sold to Saatchi & Saatchi in 2004, and Terry served as COO of Saatchi & Saatchi X until 2007.  Terry graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1992 and received his J.D. from the UofA School of Law in 1995.  He lives in Fayetteville with his wife, Kirsty, and his three kids, Lauren, Seth and Kate.

Steve Graves is the co-author of nearly a dozen books on leadership, business and the booming faith/work movement. His last two releases, Life@Work and The Power of One, were co-authored with best selling author Dr. John C. Maxwell. Steve is the founder of Coaching by Cornerstone and co-founder of the Life@Work Company, and he has been coaching senior leaders, business owners and entrepreneurs for over two decades. He is known for his wisdom, wit and ability to see through the complex to a simple path of progress. As a friend and Board member he has been instrumental in the growth of WorkMatters. 

Tommy VanZandt has over 24 years of experience in the commercial real estate industry and a primary focus on office leasing, corporate services, site acquisition and development. His experience encompasses several million square feet of lease transactions, office development project management, retail and office site selection, and consulting. Following a devastating ice storm in 2009 in Fayetteville, Arkansas Tommy fell from a ladder while cutting tree limbs and suffered a severe neck injury leaving him paralyzed from the shoulders down. His attitude and continued servant heart through this experience has been an incredible example for all. 

 

Since 1991, Susan Barrett has been a part of the St. Louis-based Mercy organization, when she joined Mercy Health System of Kansas as director of outreach services. She was named chief operating officer of Mercy Hospital in Independence, Kan., later that year, before taking over as president and CEO of Mercy Health System of Kansas. Barrett moved to Rogers in 1999 to accept the role of president and CEO of Mercy Health System of Northwest Arkansas.

Andy Wilson, Executive Leader of the Ministry & Operations, FBC and Church at Pinnacle Hills, is responsible for day-to-day Ministry, Operations and Administration and serves as Second Chair to Dr. Ronnie Floyd. He is Board Chairman of Shiloh Christian School. Prior to joining FBC and CPH, Andy served as the Chief Executive Officer for The Soderquist Center for Leadership and Ethics where he successfully led the team through a time of growth and sharpened focus. Prior to his tenure with The Soderquist Center, Andy spent 25 years as an innovative leader at Wal-Mart Stores, Inc as Vice President and Officer of Store Operations, and as Vice President of People Division

David invested 25 years in his career in the marketplace before becoming President of WorkMatters, Inc. in 2003. Prior to taking on full-time leadership of WorkMatters, he was Vice President, Business Development and Marketing for J.B. Hunt Transport, Inc. In addition, he was Senior Vice President, Marketing for Manugistics in Maryland, and Vice President Marketing for American Software in Atlanta, Ga. 

Bob McCaslin had an extraordinarily successful career with Kraft Foods for 30 years. He retired in 2002 and subsequently became involved in making northwest Arkansas a better place to live. He now serves as Mayor of Bentonville. Bob has always believed in living his faith in all aspects of his life.

Chris is Executive VP of Crossland Construction. Crossland Construction is one of the country's top 200 contracting firms with offices in Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. Crossland Construction has performed local projects such as The Embassy Suites, Springdale High School, Fayetteville Library, Ft. Smith Airport, Pinnacle Shopping and Retail Center, Tyson Discovery Center and Arvest Baseball Park. More importantly, Chris has a philosophy about life: "I exist to be a builder of buildings, men, my family and the Kingdom of God."
